Tilley
Performer
Tilley’s record close. places her intimate songs into vast, lush layered landscapes created by producer D.A.Calf. The record draws on influences such as Moses Sumney, The General Assembly, Jeff Buckley, Sharon van Etten, Mazzy Star, Low, and Joni Mitchell (Hejira / Shadows & Light era.) Tilley's wide range of musical influences and unique production makes her work hard to pin down to a single genre.
Originally from Tasmania, Tilley spent 5.5 years in the vibrant arts scene of Melbourne before returning to her home island in 2020, where she works as a vocal coach alongside her own creative career, with a focus on building community and sharing with others the true purpose of arts & expression.
Tilley sang backing vocals for Damon Albarn (of Blur and Gorillaz fame) on his Australian tour in 2014, at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne and Sydney Opera House. She was a member of the ARIA-nominated Southern Gospel Choir for 9 years, including as a featured soloist, in 2014 touring with the choir to the USA (Dallas TX, Tuskegee AL, and Los Angeles CA).
Tilley studied contemporary voice (primarily jazz) at the UTAS Conservatorium, and has a special love for improvised and experimental music. She has provided improvised & directed session vocals for UK producer Clark as well as Melbourne-based musician & composer Robin Fox on his soundtrack for the feature film Guilty. Her first album, the crowdfunded Songs from a Cold Island (2012) is a full-length album with a folky, hazey feel, followed in 2018 by the much more complex & dark close.
